STORE & BREEDING SHEEP REPORT


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 3557 store lambs at their weekly sale on Wednesday 13th September 2006 at Longtown.

A good show and plenty of buyers present saw all classes again in strong demand.

Top £42.50 for Texel x lambs from Glendearg, £41.80 Girnwood. Charollais £37, £36.50 Quarryfield, £35.50 East Foreshield. Suffolks £38.50 Hightown, £37.50 Quarryfield, £37 Loch House. Greyfaces £36.50 Underbank, £34.50 Hole of Lyne, £34.20 Parkhouse. Zwartbles £37 Cooks House, Cheviot x £38 Bradley.

Also included in the sale was the annual prize show and sale of Cheviot & Blackface lambs ably judged by local feeder John P Fisher, Smalmstown who awarded the following:-

Trade for hill lambs was strong mostly up by £3 on the year.

Other leading prices were as follows: Cheviots £36.80 Setthorns, £36 Cowburn, £35 Commonside.

Blackfaces £35.20 Whintingstown, £30.50 Earlshaugh, £30 Sundhope.
