LONGTOWN BREEDING SHEEP


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 3,244 ewes and shearlings (including the dispersal of 280 Greyface & Texel cross ewes from J S Armstrong and Sons, Triermain, Gilsland) on Tuesday 13th September 2005.

A good show of breeders attracted a full ring of buyers, trade was sharp with all classes dearer than late rates. Top was £88 and £80 for Greyface shearlings from Messrs Armstrong, Leona Villa, others to £82 Wardhead, £78 Windy Hill. Cheviot Mules to £77 & £75 North House, £74 Chapel. Texels to £74 Greenrigg. Kerrys to £76 Hillfoot.

Ewes sold to £77 for 1 crops Texels from North House. Greyface ewes (2 shear) from W Waugh, The Flatt made £72. Older ewes sold to £59 for Suffolk crosses from Middleton Farms. Texels to £58 & £56 Triermain. Greyfaces £56, £52 Triermain, others to £53 Englishtown. Cheviots to £43 Middleton. Shetlands £36, £33, £32 Oxnam Row.
