2nd Lowland Breeding Sheep Sale


Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward a catalogue entry of 3,033 ewes and shearlings at their Second Sale of Lowland Breeding Sheep at Longtown on Wednesday 15th September 2004.

A good turnout of buyers were present from Suffolk, Devon and Aberdeen.

Best quality Greyface shearlings were a strong trade, selling to a top of £95, £92 and £90 Leaona Villa, £91 Windy Hill and £90 Low Floweryhirst; Cheviot Mule £74 Strichen Mains. Continentals sold to £100 for Texel crosses from Strichen Mains; Suffolk cross £62 Marshill.

A good quality show of manly young ewes attracted fierce competition, with trade excellent for all classes.

Correct ewes (3/4 shear) – Greyface £61 Dashwellgreen, £60 (2), £59 and £58 (2) Hillcrest, £60 Hilltop, £58, £57 Windyhill, £54 The Flatt; Lleyn £63 Broomhouse; Suffolk cross £58 Maxton House; Texel cross £54 Auchleuchries, £50 Maxton House; Cheviot Mule £49 Easter Alemoor.

Two shears – Greyface £82 The Flatt; Texel cross £76 Dashwellgreen; Cheviot Mule £56 Auchleuchries. Correct belows – Cheviot Mule £45 Easter Alemoor; Texel cross £44 Kirkhouse; Greyface £41 Broomhouse; Suffolk cross £41 Borthwickshiels.
