The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart P.L.C. had
a catalogue entry of 814 Suckled Calves and Store Cattle at their
Annual Suckler Sale on Saturday 4th October 2003. All credit to
the vendors for a show of cattle that was easily the best seen
at this centre. With a full ring of buyers present all classes
met a very fast selling trade at prices well in advance of expectations.
The show was kindly sponsored by Barclays Bank P.L.C., and judged
by Mr Rick Alder, Ponteland who awarded the championship to R. & M.
Carruthers, Blacksmiths Cottage for an outstanding Belgian Blue
bullock which was purchased by the judge at £720. Reserve
champion was a Limousin bullock from F.A. & A. Waugh, Kilnstown
which sold at £650. The cup for the best Charolais went to
R.I. & V.A. Telford, High Parkfoot selling at £670.
