SECOND LOWLAND BREEDING SHEEP SALE REPORT

Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward a catalogue entry of 2,148 ewes and shearlings at their Second Sale of Lowland Breeding Sheep at Longtown on Wednesday 17th September 2003.

A good entry of both ewes and shearlings attracted buyers from a very wide radius, competition was strong throughout the sale with all classes much dearer than the previous sale.

Top of £115 for a Bluefaced Leicester shearling from Sunnyside, Texels to £95 Strichen Mains, Greyfaces £92 Windy Hill with others at £89 Leaona Villa and £88 Gillbrae, Suffolk crosses £72 Windy Hill, Cheviot Mule £76 Strichen Mains and £74 Slealands.

Correct ewes sold to £84 for a pen of 108 two shear Greyfaces from The Flatt, 3 shears to £66 Nether Hill and 4 shears £49 Moor Farm. Texel ewes to £68 for 2 shears from Strichen Mains, 3/4 shears £50 Newington, correct to £58 Midknock. Suffolk cross 2 shears £68 Fieldside. Bluefaced Leicester 2 shears £48 Sunnyside who also sold a correct ewe at £46. Correct Hill Cheviots £44 Sloda Hill.

Correct belows sold to £50 for Texels from Shawhill, Greyface £47 Moor, Half Bred £47 Moor, Bleu d’Maine £40 Shawhill.

Also included in the sale was 100 Mule and Cheviot Mule ewes on behalf of Messrs T. Forster & Partners, Hermitage Farm, Newcastleton, Greyfaces sold to £58 for 1 crop with 3 and 4 crop at £52, Cheviot Mules to £66 for 1 crop, £70 for 2 crop and £65 for 3 crop.
