STORE & BREEDING SHEEP REPORT


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart P.L.C. had forward 3,401 store lambs and 1,630 breeding sheep at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 19th August, 2008.

A larger show of 3,401 store lambs again sold well with Mule lambs selling at a premium.

Top of £52.80 for Texels from North Farm, £52 Bankshead, £50.20 Underwood; North Country Cheviot £50 Hownam Grange; Greyface £48.80 North Farm, £42.50 Fordlands, £41 Allensgreen; Beltex £46 Pallet Hill; Suffolk £41.50 Barmagachan; Charollais £39.20 Townfoot, Eals; Blackface £34.50 Hole of Lyne; Hill North Cheviot £29 Kelsocleugh. Tup lambs to £37.50 High Loveladyshield.

At the Annual August Fair of 1,630 breeding ewes, a mixed show saw quality types selling at a premium with prices up £10 on the year. Top of £70 for two shear Greyfaces from Englishtown who sold others at £69 and £68, three shear to £58 Nunscleugh, four shear to £51 High House. Correct Texel cross ewes to £66 Maxton who also sold Suffolk crosses at £60; Charollais £52 Stackbraes; Swaledale £20 Cooks House. Texel rams to £105 Fergus Hill.
