LONGTOWN LOWLAND BREEDING SHEEP


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 5000 breeding sheep comprising 2572 ewes, 2402 shearlings and 26 rams at their annual sale on Wednesday August 30th 2006.

Buyers were present from Suffolk & Lincoln in the South to Thurso in the North.

Shearlings sold to £96 for Texel x from Grayrigg, who sold others at £94, £90, £88. Greyfaces to £87, £85 Sceughdyke, £84 Fieldside & Whitton. Suffolk x £69 Highrigg, Bleu du Maines £68 Bogside, Cheviot Mules £86, £84 Whitton, Cheviots £74 Whitton, Halfbreds £88 The Croft.

Ewes were a better quality show on the year and all breeds enjoyed a very good trade. Top was £78 for Beltex x Texel (2 sh) from Dashwellgreen, Suffolk x (2sh) £74 Hillhead, Greyface (2sh) £70, £68 Englishtown. Texel (3 sh) £66 Dickstree,

Greyface (3sh) £63 Woodslee, Suffolk x (3sh) £54 Demainholm & Woodhouselees, Cheviot Mule (3sh) £48 Kilncroft.

Rams were a small show and short of requirements. Top was £380 for a Texel shearling ram from Grayrigg, who sold others at £240, £220. Charollais £200, £180 Lesson Hall, Suffolks £180 Woodend.
