STORE & BREEDING SHEEP REPORT


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 1,831 hoggs, ewes & shearlings with lambs at foot, also geld hoggs at their annual prize show and sale on Tuesday 16th May 2006.

The prize show of hoggs and lambs attracted many good outfits with trade excellent from the many buyers in attendance. Judging was in the capable hands of Norman Bowe, Calvo Farm, Silloth who awarded the following:-

Mule Hoggs
1st prize Greyface hoggs with singles

1st prize Greyface hoggs with singles Messrs Ridesdale, Yewtree Farm, Ivegill selling at £61 each

2nd prize Winter Bros., Clickham Farm, Appleby selling at £61 each

Continental Hoggs
1st prize Continental hogg with singles

1st prize Continental hogg with singles G W Young & Son, Flex, Hawick selling at £49.50 each

2nd prize G W Young & Son, Flex selling at £46 each

Top price out of the show was £62 each for Greyface hogg with single from Longrow, others to £57.50 Townhead (Holliday) & £56 Briggle, who also sold twins at £37 each. Others to £36 Clickham, £35 Townhead. £34.50 Longrow. Other Texel cross hoggs & singles £45 High End. Geld hoggs to £68.50 from Longrow for Texels & £55 Thurso.

Ewes and lambs were a stronger trade and dearer on the week.

Ewes with singles: Beltex £46 Hobbiesburn, Greyface £40 Cannerheugh, Suffolk x £36 Highend, Swaledale £18 Waterloo, Blackface £20 Over Cassock.

Ewes with twins: Texels £41 Kinning Hall, Greyfaces £39 Cannersheugh & £37 Mosside (Baxter). Blackfaces £22.50 Over Cassock, Swaledales £18 Waterloo.

Shearlings with twins: Texels £44 Westmillhills, £42.50 Kinning Hall, Blackface crosses £32 Drinkstone.
