The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. sold 138 rams of all breeds at the Dectomax Kelso Ram Sales on Friday 9th September 2005. The 16 consignors were overall delighted at the success of trade on the day.

Our rams on offer peaked at £1,000 for a Texel shearling from W.J. & J.G. Bell, Kinning Hall, Hawick, bought by Tillyrie Farms, Kinross, others from the same home sold at £820 and £720. Other Texels sold at £750, £650 and £600 from Toftcombs, Biggar, £700 North Deanhead, Carnwath, £620 and £500 Kerfield, Peebles.

Suffolks saw quality good to sell, peaking at £900 from Scrogton Head, Lanark, who returned an average of £514.16 for 12 sold, others to £500 Kingside, Leadburn. Charollais’ to £260 North Greenhill, Carlisle.

The first Zwartbles sheep sold at Kelso peaked at £800 for a ram lamb from Llepan, Anglesey, sold to Messrs Jardine, Fairgirth, Dalbeattie, other £250 and £180 East Middles, Hawick.

Beltex crosses were in strong demand, peaking at £600 from Toftcombs, Biggar, with others from Mouldyhills, Canonbie selling to £520 and £450. Texel x Suffolks were also good to sell to £400 (twice) from Carwood, Biggar.
