The
Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart P.L.C. held their
Principal Autumn Sale of Beef Breeding Cattle on Saturday
9th October 2004 when 172 head were forward, comprising 58 heifers with calves
or in calf, 64 cows with calves or in calf and 50 bulling heifers.
Quality kinds met a good trade whilst others were harder to cash.
Top price of £950 was paid for a Limousin cow with bull calf
at foot from Messrs Bewley, Mid Farm, Torpenhow, Wigton. Bulling
heifers sold to £600 for Limousins from T.J. Story, Fellend,
Roweltown, Carlisle.
A very mixed show of store cattle was on offer, with claiming bullocks
and good heifers realising late high rates and weathered cattle cheaper.
