| The Cumberland
and Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart P.L.C. had forward a catalogue
entry of over 700 Hillbred Suckler Calves at their Annual Sale on
Saturday 26th October 2002. A marvellous entry
of quality calves were forward from local breeders, which were met
with a fantastic trade throughout. Prior to the sale a show was
held, this was kindly sponsored by Barclays Bank PLC and was judged
by Mr J. Blaylock, Hallburn whose awards were as follows:-
Limousin cross bullock – 1st and 2nd prize
to G.D. Walton & Co., Allensgreen.
Limousin cross heifer – 1st prize to G.D. Walton & Co.,
Allensgreen.
Any other Continental bullock – 1st and 2nd prize to Wanwood
Partners, Wanwood Hill and 3rd prize to A.A. Roskell & Partners,
Laverhay.
Any other Continental heifer – 1st prize to Wanwood Partners,
Wanwood Hill, 2nd prize to A.A. Roskell & Partners, Laverhay,
and 3rd prize to Wanwood Partners.
Champion – Belgian Blue cross
heifer from Wanwood Partners, Wanwood Hill.
Reserve Champion – Limousin cross bullock from G.D. Walton
& Co., Allensgreen.
A feature of the sale was the annual consignment
of 123 spring born calves from Greystoke Castle Farms with 75 bullocks
averaging £511.25 and 48 heifers averaging £325.62
