Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart P.L.C. held their
Principal Autumn Sale of Beef Breeding Cattle on Saturday
12th October 2002 when 112 cows and heifers mainly with
calves at foot and 90 bulling heifers were forward.
A much sharper and dearer trade was met throughout
with better quality outfits very much in demand.
£1,520 was top price attained for a Belgian
Blue cross heifer with Limousin cross bull calf at foot from D.
Martindale, Land Farm, Ecclefechan who also sold a Limousin cross
heifer with _ bred bull calf at £1,080 followed at £1,060
from Messrs Elliott, High Dubwath who also sold a Limousin cross
heifer with _ bred heifer calf at £930. Cows with calves at
foot sold to £730 for Limousin cross with Charolais cross
bull calf from Messrs M.A. Nicholls, Grahams Onsett.
Well bred bulling heifers were very much in demand
and sold well. Messrs W.I. Foster, Coombe Crag sold a great consignment
of well bred strong Limousin cross heifers at £710 (2), £700
(6), £690 (3), with Aberdeen Angus cross heifers from I.H.G.
Warden, Skelfhill to £475, £470 and £465.
