PRIMESTOCK REPORTS


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 22 prime cattle, 12 young bulls, 18 over thirty month cattle, 7,072 prime lambs and 7,272 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 19th December 2013.

Please note that our weekly sale shall be on FRIDAY 27th DECEMBER next week with all sale times as per usual. Back to Thursday 2nd January the following week.

A small show of prime cattle with vendors weary of the prices but all classes met a similar trade. Top price to 224.5p for a Limousin bullock shown by W.H. & M. Sisson & Sons, Fenton. Limousin heifers sold to 223.5p from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn.

A plain show of cows saw trade on par with the last week. Topping the sale at 183.5p was a Charolais from R. & R.A. Pattinson, Temon.

sheep ring

A larger show of 7,072 prime lambs were forward to a full ring of buyers keen for sheep to tide them over the Christmas week. A lot of lambs 44 kilos plus were forward but all classes keenly sought after, resulting in an overall sale average of 182p per kilo (SQQ 187p per kilo). Top was £106 per head for Texels from Pirntaton Farm with a top per kilo of 309p for Beltex lambs from Keith Farm.
