The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 44 prime cattle, 26 over thirty month cattle, 3,498 prime hoggs and 3,836 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 28th March 2013.

Fewer prime cattle were on offer but there were still some quality sorts forward. Top price of 246.5p (twice), firstly for a Limousin heifer purchased by W. Kirkup & Sons, Butchers, Longtown, then for a Limousin bullock which was knocked down to Highgate Turkeys, both cattle shown by A. & W.J. Taylor & son, Dashwellgreen. Other Limousin bullocks to 242.5p from W.H. & M. Sisson & Sons, Fenton Farm and other Limousin heifers to 236.5p shown by W. & W. Faulder, Houghton House.

A smaller entry of 3,498 prime hoggs was forward, due to the Easter holidays. The usual buyers were operating, quality was not as good as normal with trade very dear for the best meated hoggs. The whole sale averaged 200p per kilo (5p down on the week) with a top per kilo of 295p for Beltex from Messrs Cavers, Sorbie and to £127 per head for Beltex from B. Ryder, Oakrigg.
