KELSO RAM SALES 2013

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. sold a record entry for the firm of 361 rams of all breeds at the Cydectin Kelso Ram Sales on Friday 13th September 2013, after managing to secure the selling of over 200 MV Accredited crossbred rams in Ring 2.

Kelso Ram Sale

Trade was beyond vendor’s expectations as was proved in the overall sale average being back only £1.50 with more rams finding new homes and vendors expressing their delight at the days trading and the service provided. With 33 rams from our consignors realising £1,000 or more, the quality on offer was clear for all to see

In our new section of crossbred rams a Kelso Ram Sale record for crossbred sheep of £3,000 was achieved when a Beltex x Texel from B. Ryder, Newton Cottages sold to Messrs Hall, Inglewood Edge, Carlisle.

Also on Thursday evening we held the Annual Show for unregistered Texel rams in Ring 18 where consignors from all firms selling in this ring were invited to show.

The event was again kindly sponsored by Tarff Valley and a large ring of 26 shearling rams were presented to the judge Mr D. McTaggart, Ormiston Farm, Hawick, who awarded the Championship to ram number 4783 from Messrs MacKay, Westhills, Rothbury (sold through North East Livestock) which went on to realise £1,100.

2nd place was awarded to lot 4878 from far travelled first time consignor, Phillip Weaver, Little Manor, Nottinghamshire (sold by C & D Farmers Mart) which went on to realise £1,400.

3rd place was given to lot 4826 from Floors Farming, Rawburn (sold by J. Swans & Sons) and realising £900.

The top call of the day was £3,000 for a Beltex x Texel shearling ram from B. Ryder, Newton, who also had the days top flock average of £940 for a consignment of 10.
