BREEDING SHEEP


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart P.L.C. had forward a catalogue entry of 3,086 breeding ewes, shearlings and ewe lambs at their special sale at Longtown on Tuesday 27th September 2005.

A good entry of breeders attracted a large company of buyers, with all classes meeting a dearer trade than recent sales.

Top of £78 and £74 for Greyface shearlings from Haithwaite, others to £70 East End, £69 Snowden Close, Texel shearlings to £75 Loch House, £70 North Deanhead. Young ewes sold to £68 for two shear Greyfaces from Dashwellgreen.

Correct ewes to £57 for Greyfaces from East End, others to £53.50 Dashwellgreen, £50 Bailey Mill; Texel £54, £53 East End; Suffolk cross £51 East End; Bleu d’Maine £50 East End.

Ewe lambs to £58, £54.50, £52.50 for Greyfaces from Fordlands, others to £53, £52 Allensgreen, £52 Hillcroft and Sunnyside, £51 Wanwood Hill and Lanehead.
