BREEDING SHEEP


Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 4,188 breeding ewes, shearlings and ewe lambs at their special sale at Longtown on Tuesday 28th September 2004.

A very good show of breeding sheep attracted a very large company of buyers from a wide area, with trade the best of the season.

Top of £81 for Charollais cross shearlings from Aimshaugh, who also sold Suffolk crosses at £74 and £73; Texel cross £78 Low Longlands, £73 & £72 Glencartholm; Greyface £78 & £72 the Hagg (Shearing), £76 Leapsrigg, £74 Kilncroft and Loch House, £70 Clonrae and Loch House; Cheviot Mule £76 Priesthaugh; Lleyn £50 Glenkiln.

Correct ewes sold to £74, £72 and £70 for 3 shear Greyfaces from Aimshaugh, others to £68 Rowfoot and £64 Loch House. Texels 359 Low Longlands; Suffolk cross £55 Baads; Charollais £58 Moss Side (Baxter); Lleyn £51 Heigh Farm. Correct bellows to £47 for Texels from Glenkiln, with Greyfaces to £45 North House and £43 Glenkiln.

Ewe lambs met a fantastic trade with Cheviot Mules to £70 West Nubbock and £66 Crawthat – average of £56.54.

Greyfaces to £67 Fordlands, others £65 Allensgreen and Waterloo, £61 Ramshope and Upper Burnmouth, £60 The Row and Collinbank – average £58.47 overall.

Texels to £54 Arkleton and Rinnion Hills; Half Bred £53 Thornshipe; Lleyn £53 Broom House.
