The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. held their
inaugural sale of pedigree Texel rams & females, sponsored
by the Solway and Tyne Breeders Club, on Wednesday
22nd September 2004, along with a sale of Suffolk and other Continental rams.

| Champion Registered Shearling |
The sale comprised of 150 registered Texels, 95 unregistered
Texels and 70 Suffolk and other Continental rams. A large attendance
of buyers were present and all quality rams were easily sold
with others maintaining recent market values, therefore making
our first sale very successful.
In the show for registered Texels held prior to the sale, the
judge Mr James Currie, Carlinside, awarded the championship
to a Texel
shearling ram from Messrs Osborne, Castlehill, Durisdeer which
later realised £480 and was purchased by Messrs Burgess,
Maryfield, New Abbey. The reserve went to a ram lamb from Messrs
Forsyth, Baltier, Whithorn.
The prize list was as follows:-
Registered shearlings:– 1st and Champion – Castlehill, £480
to Maryfield.
2nd – Harene, £310 to D’Mainholm.
3rd – Greypeel, £200 to Muirhead.
Registered ram lambs:- 1st and Reserve – Baltier (unsold).
2nd – Little Gala, £200 to Kirkton.
3rd – Chesterhall Parks, £150 to Jerriestown.
Other leading prices:- Shearlings - £380 East Middle, £360, £350, £300
Castlehill, £290(x2) East Middle.
Lambs - £280, £240, £220 Chesterhall Parks.
The unregistered show saw the Championship awarded to a Texel shearling ram from
Messrs Aitken, Kerfield, Peebles, with the reserve going to a Texel shearling
from Messrs Elliot, Harden Place.
The prize list was as follows:-
Unregistered shearlings:- 1st and Champion – Kerfield, £280 to Muirhead.
2nd and Reserve – Harden Place (unsold).
3rd – Gapshield, £280 to Corries Mill.
