The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 26 prime cattle, 19 young bulls, 39 over thirty month cattle, 5,640 prime lambs and 5,827 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 31st October 2013.

Prime cattle saw less numbers on offer with an improved show of quality, the sale was topped at 246.5p and 244.5p for Limousin bullocks shown by A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwellgreen. Limousin heifers sold to 234.5p from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn. Top gross £1,626.90 for a Limousin bullock from Messrs Taylor, Dashwellgreen.

A similar show of 5,640 prime lambs which sold to average 180.3p per kilo (SQQ 182.7p). Best quality lambs were again keenly sought after with heavy sorts lacking flesh harder to cash. Vendors are advised that lambs should now be belly clipped as requested by all abattoirs. Top price of £100 per head for Texels from J. Latimer, Cherry Garth & A. Carruthers & Sons, Peela Hill and to 283p per kilo for Beltex from J.M. Richardson, Newington.
