The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 65 prime cattle, 15 young bulls, 22 over thirty month cattle, 3,119 prime lambs and 6,112 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 19th September 2013.

A plainer show of prime cattle with mostly grass fed cattle on offer saw trade similar on the week, the sale was topped at 256.5p, 251.5p and 250.5p (x2) all shown by A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwellgreen, others to 243.5p from M. & G.A. Nicholson, The Lake.

3,119 prime lambs were forward, with more buyers present, best quality lambs keenly sought after and well short of buyers requirements, regularly selling between 220p and 245p, other lambs similar on the week with more Mule and less Continental lambs forward, lightweight lambs short of requirements but still little more than store price. The overall average 169.2p per kilo was well in line with this weeks trading. Top price of £105 per head for Texels from A.R. Bell, Kirkton and to 245p per kilo for Texels from D.E. & J. Birket, Hexpath.

Lightweight lambs were short of requirements this week and easier to sell so long as well fleshed, small lean lambs better marketed in the store ring.
