Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts had forward a huge entry of 13,091 sheep comprising of 8,895 lambs and 4,196 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Saturday 27th December 2025.

PRIME LAMBS

A huge show of 8,895 sold to the same ring of competitive purchasers ensuring all classes sold well, being 10p up across the board on last week’s great rates of return. Numbers handled with ease and more required for next Saturday’s sale.

Plenty runs of heavy lambs still achieving averages north of £180 proving to be short of purchaser requirements and commercial export weights regularly trading 345-360ppk.  

Top price per head of £214 for Texels from Guards Mill and Beltex’s from Mossview with a top per kilo 458p for Beltex from Killocraw.

CAST EWES AND RAMS

An increased entry of ewes sold to a fast trade easily maintaining last week’s high rates of return. All except plain and lightweight ewes which sold to biblical rates unseen in any centre. Many more can be sold to vendor advantage and a required on a weekly basis to satisfy 17 purchasers operating on 57 accounts making Longtown the most competitive centre in the country.

A larger show of 4,196 cast ewes and rams were forward

Heavy ewes topped at £360 for Texel ewes from W & J Brown, Hilton of Culsh, Turriff.

Beltex ewes sold to £270 shown by CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries.

Light ewes topped at £170 for Cheviot ewes also from Kilnford Croft.

Blackface ewes sold to £162 from Highfield Farming, Knock, Duns.  

Rams sold to £285 for Texels from JG Wall & Son, Westernhopeburn, Bishop Auckland.
