Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 4,336 sheep comprising of 1,840 lambs, 2,410 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 17th July 2025.
PRIME LAMBS
Another decent show of just short of 2,000 lambs sold to a reduced ring of purchasers being firmer on the week. All classes in massive demand achieving an overall average of 373.7ppk which is 70ppk in front of the same week last year. As some centres report a drop in trade Longtown again stands strong bucking the trend. All vendors delighted with trade leaving once again with a smile.
More well finished lambs are required on a weekly basis to fulfil purchaser demand.
Top price per head was a pair of Suffolk lambs making £234 from HM Livestock, Shethin
Top price per kilo went to a pair of Beltex lambs from MJ Irving, Braehead making 420p/kg
Overall average of 373.67p/kg (SQQ 374.54p/kg)

A similar entry of nearly 2,500 ewes sold to very high rates once again, with more wanted on a weekly basis to supply a very busy ring of purchasers
More light ewes forward proved to be still in demand and look well sold.
Heavy ewes topped at £350 for a Texel ewe from Newfield
NCC Ewes topped at £240 for a penful of ewes consigned by M/s Allen, Humbleheugh whose run of 59 went on to achieve an average of just short of £200.
Lightweight ewes topped by a Cheviot ewe from M/s Davidson, Crosslee reaching £170
