Cumberland & Dumfriesshire had forward 2017 gimmers, 314 breeding ewes, 1463 Blackface ewe lambs, 674 store lambs and 42 Suffolk rams at their special sale of breeding and store sheep in Dumfries on Friday 2nd September 2005.

All classes of Gimmers met a sound demand selling to a top of £91 for Texels from A Lewis & Co., Breconside, Thornhill. Blackface ewe lambs met a difficult trade and averaged £29.47, a full £6 down on the year.

A good selection oif store lambs met a trade in keeping with the national trend.

Gimmers Texel to £91 and £76 Breconside, £75 Little Culloch.

Mule to £90 and £89 Marwhirn, £86 Lawesknowe, £82 Coatston, Nether Keir, Kenmuir and Linns, £80 Midtown of Balgray, Hartwood and Wardhead.

Half-bed to £82 Wardhead and Strichen Mains, £72 Marwhirn.

Cheviot Mule to £78 Marwhirn.

Ewe Lambs Blackface to £40 Glenmanna (Polgowan), £37 Carco, £36 Glenmanna and Chanlockfoot, £34 Glenmanna, Mount Benger and Kirksteads, £33 Locherben.

Half-bred to £46 Marwhirn, £40 and £39 Townfoot.

Store lambs Texel to £38 Capelfoot.

Cross to £36 Merkland, £33.20, £31 and £30 Barvennan.

Suffolk to £34 Midtown, £32.50 Ewanston, £32.20 Hastingshall, £31.50 Barvennan.

Blackface to £29 Merkland.

The Championship for Suffolk Rams was awarded to a quality lamb from J & M Buchanan, Pretts Mill, Sandilands, Lanark and sold for £420 to DG Greenshields, South Mains, Sanquhar. Overall average of 23 sold £254.17.

Rams to £420 Pretts Mill and Backburn, £400 Burghhead, £380, £320, £300 and £280 Backburn, £340 Cumleys.
