Bluefaced Leicester and Texel Rams at Dumfries

DUMFRIES RAM FAIR

Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart held their Annual Show and Sale of Bluefaced Leicester and Texel Rams at Dumfries on Friday 1st October 2004.

The Championship in the Bluefaced Leicester section was awarded to Messrs Kirkpatrick, Barr, Sanquhar for a Shearling Ram selling at £650 to A. Mundell, Lawesknowe. The reserve champion Ram Lamb from Messrs Hamilton, Tower, Sanquhar sold to Mr. Edgar, Newfield, Dalry for £280.

The Championship in the Texel section was awared to Messrs Harvey, Nether Keir, Thornhill for a Shearling Ram selling at £400 to Messrs Goldie, Skipmyre, Lochmaben. The reserve champion Ram Lamb from Messrs Harrison, Luce Mains, Ecclefechan, Lockerbie sold at £500 to Messrs Braid, Leithenhall, Wamphray.

A packed ringside saw a buoyant trade with many rams exceeding sellers’ expectations.

Ram Lambs – Bluefaced Leicester - £360, £340, £300 Kilfaddoch, £280 Tower.
Texel - £500 and £400 Luce Mains.
Suffolk - £340 Burghhead and Larglea, £320 Calfpark.

The firm also had forward 2064 Mule ewe lambs, 1836 store lambs in Dumfries on Friday.

Mule ewe lambs met a strong demand selling to a top of £59 from Messrs JL Walker & Co. Tower, Sanquhar. Overall average was £50.92.

A small show of Breeding sheep sold well. Store lambs met a brisk demand and were readily sold.
